Fatal Road Accident on Owerri-Onitsha Expressway Claims Multiple Lives

A devastating road accident on Friday morning along the Owerri-Onitsha Motorway in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, has resulted in numerous casualties. The accident involved the Lord’s Chosen Church members travelling in a luxury bus for a weekend crusade in Owerri when their vehicle collided with a Tipper.

According to reports, the collision occurred at the Orogwe end of the motorway, leaving a significant number of church members feared dead. An eyewitness, speaking on condition of anonymity, estimated that over 20 people lost their lives in the tragic accident.

Prompt response from some residents saw a few of the victims rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention. Imo State Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the incident, indicating that more than five individuals have been reported dead, with an undisclosed number of casualties receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities.

Okoye further stated that the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Danjuma Aboki, has swiftly mobilised a traffic team to the accident site to assist in evacuating victims. Additional police personnel have been deployed to manage the heavy traffic congestion resulting from the incident.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this heartbreaking tragedy, authorities are working diligently to support the affected families and ensure the swift and efficient handling of the situation.
