On April 25, 2024, Grant Thornton Nigeria organized a transformative workshop at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos, tailored explicitly for the INSOL International Future Leaders program. Themed “The Future of Business Rescue in Nigeria,” the event aimed to provide young professionals with a comprehensive understanding of the country’s dynamic insolvency and business rescue landscape.

The workshop commenced with welcoming addresses delivered by BRIPAN President Mr Chimezie Ihekweazu SAN and Grant Thornton Nigeria CEO Dr Ngozi Ogwo, setting the stage for an enlightening session.

The workshop, led by Grant Thornton Partners, comprised three informative modules designed to delve into various aspects of Nigeria’s insolvency framework. Mr. Orji Okpechi initiated the sessions by examining Nigeria’s previous insolvency framework and shedding light on its legal challenges.

Following this, Mr. Lateef Emiola provided insights into the new insolvency provisions introduced under CAMA 2020, highlighting key aspects such as company voluntary arrangements and administration procedures.

In the concluding module, Mr Amaechi Nsofor discussed Nigeria’s future trajectory of insolvency laws, emphasizing potential cross-border implications and innovative restructuring models.

Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in an interactive case study session, applying their newly acquired knowledge to analyze real-world scenarios and propose practical solutions. The event aimed to empower the next generation of insolvency professionals by equipping them with the necessary insights and skills to navigate Nigeria’s rapidly evolving business rescue regime.

The workshop concluded with closing remarks by Mr. Amaechi Nsofor, followed by a networking session where speakers and attendees could connect and exchange ideas.
