Nigerian Military Mourns Slain Major Shaffa

The Nigerian military community is in mourning following the tragic death of Major Salisu Danjuma Shaffa, who was killed in an ambush in Delta State’s Okuama area. Major Shaffa, who had recently assumed duties in his new Area of Responsibility (AR), met his untimely demise three weeks into his assignment on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Major Shaffa was part of a military contingent from the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Bomadi Division, accompanying the Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Ali, another Major, one Captain, and 12 soldiers on a rescue mission to release Anthony Aboh, a hostage from the Okoloba community held over a land dispute. Tragically, the team was ambushed and killed during the operation.

Survived by his pregnant wife and two young children, Major Shaffa, an alumnus of the University of Maiduguri hailing from Shaffa town in Borno’s Hawul Local Government Area, leaves behind a devastated family and military community.

Former gubernatorial candidate in Borno State, Alhaji Idris Mamman Durkwa, expressed grief over Major Shaffa’s death and called for a thorough investigation into the ambush to ensure justice is served. Durkwa stressed the importance of accountability to prevent future tragedies and honour the sacrifice of Major Shaffa and his fallen comrades.

Nigerian Military Mourns Loss of Major Shaffa in Delta State Ambush

Announcing the tragic news on social media, Major Shaffa’s brother, Mallam Hussain Danjuma, mourned his loss and prayed for forgiveness and eternal rest for the deceased. Family members, including Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, also expressed condolences and prayed for mercy and peace for Major Shaffa’s soul.

As the military community mourns the loss of Major Shaffa, calls for justice and accountability echo among those affected by this devastating loss. Further updates on the investigation and funeral arrangements are awaited as the nation grieves the loss of a dedicated officer.
