The suspect behind the murder of Miss Hauwa, the hijab woman, is 21NA/80/0365 Pte. Mohammed Adamu of 82Div legal services. “Unfortunately, Pte. Mohammed Adamu is a repented Boko Haram member who, after his repentance, joined the civilian JTF. It was because he was a CJTF that he was enlisted in the Army in 2021.

Private Mohammed Adamu, bearing service number 21NA/80/0365, stands accused of the brutal slaying of a woman whose lifeless body, shrouded in a hijab, was discovered on the barracks premises.

The victim, identified as Hauwa, was reportedly found by the daughter of an Army lieutenant on Friday, a grim sight that sent shockwaves through the military community.

Sources close to the investigation have revealed the harrowing details: Hauwa, pregnant with Adamu’s child, allegedly fell victim to his wrath over suspicions of infidelity.

Investigations into the incident have unravelled a troubling narrative. Adamu, a repentant former member of Boko Haram, had transitioned from the ranks of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to the Nigerian Army in 2021.

The case underscores the complexities of integrating former insurgents into the military, a process fraught with challenges and risks.

Military sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that Adamu confessed to the crime, admitting to slitting Hauwa’s throat and stabbing her abdomen multiple times before concealing her body near the 82nd Division officers’ quarters.

Shockingly, Adamu expressed a disapproval of paternity over Hauwa’s unborn child, a sentiment that allegedly fueled the heinous act.

The incident has sparked renewed scrutiny over the Nigerian Army’s recruitment policies and the efficacy of rehabilitation programs for former insurgents.

While the Army has consistently denied allegations of recruiting ex-Boko Haram members, insiders reveal a different reality, pointing to the gradual integration of repentant individuals like Adamu into military ranks.

As the investigation unfolds, questions linger about the safeguards in place to prevent such tragedies and the support systems available for soldiers grappling with the traumas of conflict and reintegration.

In the wake of this appalling crime, the Nigerian Army faces a sobering reckoning, wrestling with the aftermath of violence within its own ranks and the broader implications for national security and stability.
