Suspected Herdsmen Abduct Wife and House Help of Former Benue Chief of Staff

In a harrowing incident unfolding on Friday evening, suspected herdsmen perpetrated a brazen abduction, seizing the wife and house help of Hon. Terwase Orbunde, former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.

The abduction transpired near the Genocide Cemetery along the Mobile Barracks-Welfare Quarters Road in Makurdi, the state capital, at approximately 6 pm. The victims, identified as Mrs. Abigail Kashimana Orbunde and her housekeeper, Patience Ogute, were returning to their vehicle after inspecting and compensating workers on their farm when they fell prey to an ambush by five armed men.

During the assault, Hon. Orbunde sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm but managed to evade capture, albeit with severe injuries.

Witnesses recounted a scene of chaos as villagers and passersby scattered in all directions amidst the hail of gunfire.

The assailants forcefully abducted Mrs. Orbunde and Ms. Ogute, spiriting them away to an undisclosed location.

According to eyewitnesses speaking to The Nation, as the group departed, the bleeding former Chief of Staff was instructed to leave the scene while the women were whisked away.

Prompt intervention by Good Samaritans saw Hon. Orbunde swiftly transported to a nearby medical facility, where he is currently undergoing treatment for his gunshot wound.

Having previously served as Chief of Staff under former Governor Samuel Ortom’s administration, Hon. Orbunde relinquished his position to vie for candidacy in the PDP gubernatorial primary. Subsequently, he transitioned to the All Progressive Congress (APC) but faced setbacks in securing a nomination.
