Violence Erupts in Zamfara: PDP Secretary Killed, Students Freed from Abduction
Amid escalating violence in Zamfara State, gunmen suspected to be terrorists claim the life of a PDP secretary, while another PDP leader falls victim to the unrest. In a separate development, students abducted from Federal University, Gusau, have been freed after enduring months of captivity.
In a tragic turn of events, Zamfara State has been engulfed in violence, with gunmen suspected to be terrorists claiming the life of Musa Ille, the secretary of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Tsafe Local Government Area.
Reports indicate that Ille was fatally shot right in front of his home in Tsafe by unknown assailants. An area resident lamented the loss, describing Ille as an excellent and God-fearing neighbour.
Similarly, another prominent figure within the PDP ranks in Zamfara, Shafiu Abubakar, also fell victim to the recent surge in violence. Abubakar, who harboured aspirations of contesting for the chairmanship position in the Maradun Local Government Area Council in the forthcoming local government elections, tragically lost his life in an incident near Danbaza junction and Maradun town.
Amidst this grim situation, there is a glimmer of hope as the remaining students of the Federal University, Gusau, who were abducted last year by a group of bandits, have finally regained their freedom.
The students were kidnapped during a raid on the Sabon-Gida community in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara in September 2023.
Zamfara, located in the northern region of Nigeria, has been grappling with incessant banditry, with criminal gangs wreaking havoc by raiding villages, murdering residents, and carrying out mass kidnappings, mainly targeting students.
The release of the abducted students brings some relief to the state, but the violence continues to pose a significant threat to the peace and security of Zamfara residents.
