Legal Battle Ensues as Miyetti Allah Leader Challenges FG's Prolonged Detention and Allegations

Bello Bodejo, the leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has been a prominent figure in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, particularly in issues concerning the Fulani pastoralist community. His role within the organization has been subject to scrutiny and controversy, with allegations of involvement in illegal activities during the previous administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

During Buhari’s administration, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore was implicated in various incidents, including clashes between herders and farmers, that resulted in widespread violence and loss of lives. The organization was accused of fueling ethnic tensions and exacerbating conflicts in different parts of the country. Additionally, there were allegations of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore providing support to armed Fulani militias involved in attacks on communities, particularly in the Middle Belt region.

Bodejo’s leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore during this period raised questions about his role in these alleged illegal activities. While he denies any wrongdoing, critics argue that his influence within the organization may have contributed to the perpetuation of violence and insecurity in Nigeria.

Miyetti Allah Leader Challenges Detention and Allegations

The detained leader of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo, has taken legal action against the Federal Government, seeking his immediate release from custody. Bodejo’s legal counsel, Mohammed Sheriff, submitted a motion to the Federal High Court in Abuja, citing violations of his client’s fundamental rights.

Despite multiple attempts to secure his release before arraignment, Bodejo has been detained for 43 days without formal charges being brought against him in a court of appropriate jurisdiction.

In response to the motion, counsel representing the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Y. A. Imana, informed the court that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had yet to forward Bodejo’s file due to complications in their investigation. Despite three letters sent to the NIA, the transmission of necessary duplicate copies for prosecution has been delayed due to the complexity of the investigation.

Bodejo’s arrest on January 23 at the Miyetti Allah office in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State followed the disclosure of a vigilante group by the Fulani socio-cultural organization. The hearing for Bodejo’s motion has been scheduled for March 13 by Justice Inyang Ekwo.
