NOUN Denies Tinubu's Directive on Admission and Mobilisation

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has refuted recent news reports claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the admission of NOUN graduates into the Nigeria Law School and their mobilisation for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

In a statement released by the Director of Media and Publicity of NOUN, Malam Ibrahim Sheme, the university clarified that there was no such directive in President Tinubu’s speech during the 13th Convocation Ceremony of NOUN.

The statement emphasised that the reports misinterpreted Tinubu’s speech, which did not include directives regarding NOUN graduates’ admission to the Law School or their NYSC mobilisation.

The statement highlighted that the news reports were based on a purported version of Tinubu’s speech circulating on social media. It noted that accredited education correspondents who attended the convocation ceremony did not report such directives from Tinubu.

NOUN reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining integrity and professionalism in all its engagements, urging the public and stakeholders to rely on verified sources of information, particularly those directly affiliated with the university, to avoid confusion or misinterpretation.

The university’s response aims to clarify the misinformation circulating in the media regarding President Tinubu’s alleged directives, emphasising the importance of accurate reporting and reliance on credible sources of information.
