In strategic partnership with the National Hospital, Abuja, the Nigerian Bar Association, Gwagwalada Branch (Eagle Bar), proudly announces a transformative webinar titled “Developments in Mental Health Issues and Law in Nigeria.”

The webinar addresses critical mental health issues in the legal profession and society. Mental health is fundamental to individual, professional, organizational, and national well-being.

The increasing number of reported and unreported mental health cases, even among legal professionals, has become a worrisome concern, exacerbated by economic meltdowns, political crises, unemployment, insecurity, and social unrest.

The predicament of people suffering from mental health-related issues is compounded by denials, mysteries, stigmatization, discrimination, and a lack or improper appreciation of relevant law.

Former President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Mental Health Bill into law in January 2023, significantly updating Nigeria’s mental health legislation.

The legal profession, like the larger society, is characterized by high levels of stress and pressure, which can lead to various mental health issues. To address this, the webinar, ‘Developments in Mental Health Issues and Law in Nigeria,’ will be online on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom.
