Tragic Incident Unfolds in Abuja: Secondary School Student Fatally Stabbed

In a profoundly distressing turn of events, a teenage secondary school student met a tragic demise in Kubwa town, situated in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Reports have surfaced indicating that the young girl, identified as Salma Yunusa, was brutally stabbed to death, sending shockwaves through the community.

The heartbreaking incident occurred in the Byazhin area of Kubwa, where Salma resided under the care of her elder sister, Bilikisu Yunusa.

According to accounts provided by Bilikisu to Daily Trust, the assailant responsible for this heinous act was none other than a co-tenant residing in the same compound, Immaculate Chukwudi, who has since been apprehended by law enforcement.

The sequence of events leading to this senseless tragedy began with an altercation between the suspect and another male tenant, referred to as Pastor. Bilikisu, attempting to defuse the situation, intervened. However, matters escalated, and tragically, when Salma intervened as well, she became the victim of a fatal attack.

In Bilikisu’s harrowing recollection of the events, she described how a seemingly trivial dispute over laundry escalated into a fatal confrontation. “I saw the pastor packing off the clothes that he washed, even though they were yet to dry,” Bilikisu recounted.

“And when I tried to find out why, he simply told me that the suspect demanded it.” This seemingly innocent exchange led to a series of confrontations culminating in the fatal stabbing of Salma.

Bilikisu narrated, “In the following morning, I went to my drum to fetch water, but the woman approached again and spit over the water. My younger sister (the deceased) came out of the room. After informing her about the development, she immediately threw away the water on the ground, which annoyed the suspect.

So, the suspect left, only for her to return with a bucket filled with water and empty it on my sister. As my sister was trying to clear her face from the water, she brought out a knife and stabbed her in the chest.”

Despite efforts to rush Salma to Kubwa General Hospital, where immediate medical attention was sought, she was pronounced dead upon arrival, leaving her family and the community in profound grief.

Authorities were swiftly notified of the incident, prompting the suspect’s apprehension. The FCT police command, through spokesperson Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and assured that investigations were underway. Adeh also mentioned that the suspect would eventually face the total weight of the law.

Salma Yunusa was laid to rest in her hometown of Ajagwumu in Dekina LGA, Kogi State, amid tears and sorrow as family, friends, and members of the community bid farewell to a life snuffed too soon.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic loss, questions linger about the circumstances surrounding Salma’s untimely demise, emphasizing the urgent need for justice and accountability in the face of such senseless violence.
