The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has urged the Federal Government to release its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, citing concerns over his declining health while in detention. In a statement issued by IPOB spokesman Emma Powerful on Friday, the group expressed alarm over Kanu’s deteriorating condition. It accused the government of planning his “systematic murder” through the judicial system.

According to Powerful, Kanu’s health has worsened during his detention, with the Department of State Services (DSS) allegedly administering experimental drugs for his serious health issues. IPOB asserted that the DSS lacks adequate medical facilities to address Kanu’s deteriorating heart condition, emphasizing that he has not committed any crime.

Powerful urged Igbo politicians to use their influence to ensure Kanu’s release and prevent the government from further endangering his life. He warned of potential consequences if Kanu were to die in custody, stating that his demise could ignite widespread unrest and instability in Nigeria.

The statement also referenced recent calls from some South-East members of the House of Representatives to halt Kanu’s trial. IPOB reiterated its demand for Kanu’s release in good health, as the Appeal Court Justices declared, emphasizing that the group remains committed to peaceful advocacy but will take action if necessary.
