Kukah will deliver the 36th UNICAL Convocation Lecture on Harmonizing Diversities for National Development.

Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto will deliver the University of Calabar’s (UNICAL) 36th convocation lecture on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at the University’s International Conference Center in Calabar.

The institution’s vice chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, announced during a pre-convocation media briefing. Prof Obi praised Kukah’s lifelong dedication to human development and religious community service.

In addition to the convocation lecture, the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman, and officials from the Ministry will commission five projects funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). These projects, consisting of three pavilions and two hostels, are valued at over N2 billion.

Anne Uruegi Agi Awarded PhD in Law at UNICAL Convocation

Furthermore, UNICAL will confer first-class degrees upon 32 graduates during the event. A total of 8,415 students will receive first degrees, 438 will be awarded doctorate degrees, and 754 will be awarded master’s degrees. The first and doctorate degree award ceremonies are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.

Among the recipients of a doctorate degree is Dr. Anne Uruegi Agi, who joined the University of Calabar in 2017 as a Lecturer II in the Department of Public Law. Dr. Agi obtained her LL.B degree from the University of Calabar in 2004 and was subsequently called to the Nigerian Bar in 2005 after passing the Bar Exams. She earned her LL.M. degree from the University of Ibadan in 2009.

Dr. Agi diligently served as a Judicial Researcher at the Court of Appeal, Benin Division, during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. She was actively involved in legal practice until her recent appointment. Today, Dr. Anne Uruegi Agi is awarded a Ph.D. in Law for her contributions to the field.
