In a noteworthy breakthrough for law enforcement in Rivers State, Nigeria, the notorious cult leader Gift Okpara, popularly known as ‘2Baba’, has been located and confirmed dead in a joint security operation conducted in the Embrass community of Ahoada West Local Government Area. Okpara, who had been the prime suspect in the brutal murder of former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bako Angbashim in 2023, was the subject of an extensive manhunt before his demise.

Update:

Following the discovery of Okpara’s decomposing body in a shallow grave, Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu provided detailed information regarding the operation and the subsequent exhumation of the cult leader’s remains. The retrieval of Okpara’s body, marked by a dramatic scene at the police headquarters in Port Harcourt, concluded a prolonged effort by law enforcement agencies to apprehend him and dismantle his gang.

Disu recounted the challenges law enforcement faced in tracking Okpara and his associates, highlighting the persistence and intelligence required to locate the burial site deep within the Ebrass Forest. The police operation was further supported by the Nigerian Air Force, whose aerial strike on Okpara’s camp significantly weakened the gang’s capabilities, paving the way for subsequent police actions.

Commissioner Disu expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Air Force for their support and to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for his guidance throughout the operation. He also thanked Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fabura for his unwavering support in maintaining law and order in the state.
