In a sombre update, the United States Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller revealed on Monday that a devastating toll has been taken on American lives in the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel. Miller stated that at least nine Americans have fallen victim to the attacks by Hamas terrorists.
Earlier, the Majority Leader in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, issued a statement acknowledging that four American citizens had lost their lives during the assault on Sunday. Schumer sadly remarked, “Unfortunately, we know there are Americans who were killed. The Administration told us that they know of four thus far, but, sadly, we know the toll will rise.”
Secretary of State Antony Blinken, speaking on Sunday, conveyed that the United States is diligently working to confirm reports of missing and deceased Americans following the unprecedented attack launched by Hamas against Israel.
Blinken stated, “We have reports that several Americans were killed. We’re working overtime to verify that. At the same time, there are reports of missing Americans, and again, we’re working to verify those reports.”
Furthermore, CNN reported on Monday afternoon that the death toll has tragically risen to nine as Israel imposed a complete siege in Gaza. Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs, Ron Dermer, informed CNN’s Dana Bash on Sunday that Americans are among those being held hostage in Gaza.
The US Embassy in Jerusalem has updated its contingency plans for potential land or air evacuations in response to the escalating situation. The embassy issued a shelter-in-place order for its personnel on Saturday, reflecting the situation’s urgency.
