Abia State Police Commence Investigation Into The Horrific Beheading of A Prominent Community Leader.

The Abia State Police Command has initiated an urgent investigation into the gruesome beheading of 70-year-old Zachary Nmaduka, a respected figure hailing from Ezieke Akpukpa Uturu in Isiukwuato Local Government Area of the state. The tragic incident occurred on a fateful Tuesday evening, casting a pall of shock and grief over the community.

Zachary Nmaduka, the esteemed home branch chairman of Uturu Development Union, Uturu, had ventured out for a drink at approximately 8 p.m. in the Amelechi Akpukpa community area when he fell victim to a ruthless attack by unidentified gunmen. The late Nmaduka was a grassroots politician and a vocal advocate against the growing insecurity in his community. He had taken on the significant role of leading the Uturu community security outfit, demonstrating his commitment to the safety of his fellow residents. Furthermore, during the previous general elections, he had served as the campaign director for Amobi Ogah, the elected representative of the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal constituency.

The Community’s Response and Ongoing Investigation

Reports indicate that the assailants, numbering around 10 and armed with pump-action guns, cutlasses, and various weapons, ambushed him at a local drinking establishment in the community. The attack was swift and brutal, resulting in his tragic demise. Witnesses describe a horrifying scene where the victim was shot and dragged on the ground before being beheaded, with his assailants callously absconding with his severed head.

The heinous incident has plunged Zachary Nmaduka’s family, friends, and relatives into profound mourning and bewilderment.

The Community’s Response and Ongoing Investigation

According to Maureen Chinaka, the State Police Public Relations Officer, the police were alerted immediately after the incident, and they swiftly recovered the victim’s lifeless body on Tuesday night. She affirmed that the police force is vigorously pursuing the perpetrators of this abhorrent act and is determined to bring them to justice.

In a statement, the Assistant Superintendent of Police explained, “Mr Nmaduka was violently attacked, shot, and beheaded by unidentified assailants while he was at a drinking joint in Amelechi Akpukpa community.” She added that a joint team involving police and army personnel was promptly dispatched to the scene, where they tragically discovered Mr Nmaduka’s lifeless body. Investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Kecee Igara, Chairman of the LP in the state, confirmed Zachary’s affiliation with the party and strongly called upon the security agencies to apprehend and prosecute his killers, denouncing such an act of evil as intolerable.
