The appeal court invalidates Labour Party House of Rep Members' Victory Due to Certificate Forgery.

The Court of Appeal in Lagos State has rendered Hon. Emeka Nnamani of the Labour Party (LP) ineligible as the representative for Aba North and South Federal Constituency of Abia State. This decision was made on the grounds of certificate forgery, an issue dating back to 2015.

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, the Court of Appeal affirmed Alex Ikwechegh of the All Grand Progressives Alliance (APGA) as the legitimate winner of the February 25 general election in the constituency, further solidifying the decision made by the election petition tribunal during the 2023 general election.

The Appellate Court’s judgment aligns with the stance previously taken by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Umuahia, Abia State. Presided over by Justice Adeyinka Aderibigbe, the tribunal had earlier in September invalidated Nnamani’s victory and directed the issuance of a certificate of return to Alex Ikwechegh, the runner-up from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Further details on this ruling are forthcoming and will be provided as they become available.
