Bobrisky Appeals Six-Month Jail Term For Naira Abuse

Popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has lodged an appeal against his six-month conviction for financial misconduct.

This development comes after Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison by a Federal High Court in Lagos following charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). In the appeal filed by his attorney, Deji Adeyanju, Bobrisky seeks to overturn the six-month jail term imposed on him.

In his appeal, Bobrisky contends that the trial judge erred in law and fact by imposing the maximum sentence of six months imprisonment without the option of a fine, which he argues is contrary to the provisions of Section 416(2) d of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act of 2015. The appellant asserts that the law prescribes mandatory guidelines for the trial court on the imposition of sentencing, particularly for first-time offenders like himself.

Bobrisky’s appeal seeks to set aside the six-month maximum imprisonment sentence and replace it with a fine of N50,000 on each count against him. This move signals Bobrisky’s determination to challenge the severity of the sentence and explore alternative legal avenues to address the charges brought against him by the EFCC.
