EFCC Investigating Celebrities for Naira Abuse

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced its ongoing investigation into several celebrities involved in abusing the Nigerian currency, the naira.

In a statement released on Sunday by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency expressed awareness of various old videos circulating on social media showcasing instances of Naira abuse.

This announcement follows the recent arrest, prosecution, and sentencing of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, for similar offences.

According to the EFCC, it remains committed to investigating and prosecuting individuals found guilty of Naira abuse. The agency emphasized that any new videos depicting such infractions will be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted.

The Special Task Force established by the EFCC to combat Naira abuse and the dollarization of the economy has been actively pursuing these cases since February 2024.

The EFCC reiterated its commitment to operating without favouritism or exemptions, emphasizing that no one is above the law.

In conclusion, the EFCC warned the public to remain vigilant and comply with laws prohibiting Naira abuse. The agency reaffirmed its dedication to upholding the rule of law and urged individuals to refrain from engaging in activities that undermine the integrity of the Nigerian currency.
