The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Editorial Board invites submissions of well-researched papers across various legal domains for potential publication in the Nigerian Bar Journal (NBJ), a prestigious publication aimed at advancing legal scholarship and jurisprudence. Manuscripts, which can include full-length articles, short notes, case comments, statute reviews, or analyses of bills, are subject to rigorous peer-review to ensure originality and relevance to legal practitioners, academics, and other stakeholders. Submissions must adhere to specific formatting guidelines, utilize the OSCOLA citation style, and not infringe copyright or contain defamatory content. Authors are encouraged to submit their work for consideration for the upcoming volume by the specified deadline, with further inquiries directed to the Editorial Board Chairman.

The Editorial Board of the Nigerian Bar Association (“NBA”) calls for well-researched papers in diverse areas of law with contemporary relevance, for publication in the Nigerian Bar Journal (“NBJ”). The NBJ is a flagship publication of the Nigerian Bar Association.

Articles published in the Journal are subjected to rigorous peer-review to ensure that they provide original analyses of the issues considered, in a manner that interests the academia, the Bar, the Bench, and other relevant stakeholders.

Guidelines for Submission to the Nigerian Bar Journal

Please note that the Editorial Board shall only consider papers for publication where they comply with the following guidelines:

  1. The manuscript must be in Microsoft Word format with 12 font sizes using Times New Roman characters, typed in English, and with 1.5 line spacing on A4 paper.
  • All referencing must be done with automatic footnoting using a font size of 10, numbered consecutively and following the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) citation style, fourth edition. The OSCOLA citation style can be assessed at http://www.law.ox.ac.uk/oscola.
  • The manuscript or contribution must be original and must not have been submitted for publication elsewhere.
  • Contributions shall be between seven thousand (7,000) and ten thousand (10,000) words in the case of full-length articles and not more than five thousand words (5,000) in the case of short articles, which may be statute reviews, Bill analyses, or case comments. In any case, the number of words shall include footnotes.
  • The body of the manuscript shall commence with an abstract of not more than 200 words before the introduction, with keywords immediately after the abstract.
  • The manuscript submitted does not infringe copyright or is defamatory, obscene or otherwise unlawful or litigious.

Please be informed that all submitted manuscripts shall be subjected to blind peer review. As such, the author’s names and institutions/affiliations should not be included at the head of the manuscript, except for the title.

Instead, these shall be on a separate title page containing the title of the manuscript, the author’s name with qualifications obtained, the Author’s institutional affiliation, professional and/or academic status and email address. The manuscript for submission should be named in line with the paper’s title and attached as a Word document to the email.

To be considered for Vol. 14 Nos. 1& 2 of 2024 of the Journal, all articles must be received by the Editorial Board/Committee on or before 30th April 2024 All papers should be clearly marked for the attention of the Secretary of the Editorial Board and sent to nbaeditorialboard@nigerianbar.org.ng
