The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Mr Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, expressed relief as he visited Hon. Justice Oyewole Adeyeye, the Chief Judge of Ekiti State, in London. The Chief Judge had recently recovered from injuries sustained in July due to the collapse of part of the Ekiti State High Court complex.
Mr. Maikyau disclosed that the Chief Judge is in good health and in high spirits and is expected to resume work on Monday. The NBA had previously expressed concern over the deteriorating state of court infrastructure nationwide, emphasizing the need for urgent attention. In light of the incident in Ekiti, the association reiterated its commitment to addressing these challenges.
Additionally, the NBA confirmed a disturbing attack on a judge of the Upper Area Court in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State, who was conducting a visit to a locus in quo. The NBA strongly condemned the attack and vowed to ensure that the perpetrators face the full consequences of the law.
The NBA President directed the Chairmen of the NBA Gombe Branch and the NBA Security Agencies Relations Committee (SARC) to collaborate with the Gombe State Police Command and called on the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State, to investigate and address the incident promptly.
