A source familiar with the incident stated, “At the time of the incident, no one was available to help the priest; he was there throughout the rain.”

By the time the news of the accident spread, the priest had already passed away, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

SP Catherine Anene, the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident. However, she could not verify whether Father Gundu had collapsed and died from the fall or if his passing was directly caused by the lightning strike.

An investigation into the incident has been initiated to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the priest’s untimely demise. The Catholic community and residents of Benue State are mourning the loss of a revered clergyman known for his dedication and service to the community.
