NBA President Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, Honored Among Nigeria's Top 100 Lawyers in 2023

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Mr YC Maikyau OON, SAN, has been recognized as one of the “Top 100 exceptional and outstanding Nigerian legal personalities with significant contributions to legal education and practice” in 2023.

The Legal Attorney Blog reveals that the accolade is evidence of YC Maikyau’s proven track record of excellence and his noteworthy performance in legal education and practice. The organizers, Legal Eagles Initiatives and LMT Academy, unveiled the honorees over the weekend, emphasizing that the awards aim to celebrate hard work, reward consistency, and honour individuals and institutions that have made commendable impacts within and outside the legal profession.

The organizers highlighted President Maikyau’s distinguished contributions and his commendable impact, aligning with the awards’ objective of recognizing excellence and significant achievements in the legal field. The recognition showcases his commitment to upholding the highest legal practice and education standards.

In another noteworthy development, the General Council of the Bar (GCB) was inaugurated on January 9, 2023, by the YC Maikyau’s administration, with the former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, CON, SAN, leading the initiative.

Considering the long halt in convening the GCB, this marks a significant milestone. The absence of the GCB over the years created a gap in the regulatory structure of the legal profession, impacting the profession’s ability to address contemporary challenges effectively. This jink was effectively broken by the Maikyau Administration.

The President further charged the GCB with the crucial task of developing a draft of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Legal Practitioners as a top priority.

This initiative reflects the commitment of the current administration to enhance the legal profession’s regulatory framework, ensuring it addresses current issues and challenges effectively.
