Zoleka had been an outspoken advocate for raising awareness about cancer prevention, chronicling her struggles with the disease over the years. A recent scan had shown significant cancer progression, affecting multiple organs, including her hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain, and spinal cord.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation expressed its condolences on social media, acknowledging her significant contributions to cancer prevention and her tireless efforts to combat the stigma associated with the disease.

Their post stated, “We mourn the loss of a beloved grandchild of Mum Winnie and Madiba. Her work raising awareness about cancer prevention and her unwavering commitment to breaking down the stigma surrounding the disease will continue to inspire us all.”

Zoleka Mandela was the daughter of Zindzi Mandela, Nelson Mandela’s youngest daughter, and her first husband, Zwelibanzi Hlongwane. Her passing is a poignant reminder of the ongoing battle against cancer and the importance of advocacy in the face of this devastating disease.
