Three-Story Building Collapses in Surulere, Lagos – No Casualties Reported, Says NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has officially confirmed the collapse of a three-story building in the Surulere area of Lagos State. Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, the territorial coordinator of NEMA, provided details, stating that the building located at No. 14 Ikpoh Street in Surulere collapsed around 10 p.m. on Friday night. Fortunately, there were no casualties resulting from the incident.

Mr. Gervase Anyanwu, a businessman and occupant of the building, recounted the events, explaining that all the occupants evacuated the building safely before it collapsed. He mentioned that a loud noise was heard from one of the wings of the building just before it gave way. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded, and he attributed their safe escape to divine grace.

Another building occupant informed reporters that the structure had displayed signs of distress before its collapse on Friday. At the time of the report, excavation of the rubble from the collapsed building had not yet begun. Still, relevant government agencies and emergency responders were already on the scene, prepared to take the necessary actions.
