Tragedy struck at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), as Chibuzor Ozioko, a diligent 300-level philosophy student, met a brutal end on the evening of September 27, 2023. Chibuzor, working tirelessly as a motorcycle operator to support his education, fell victim to a group of marauding thugs in Ofuluinu, Enugu State. The harrowing incident occurred around 9:30 PM when Chibuzor resisted the criminals’ attempt to steal his motorcycle. He fought against the assailants in a courageous struggle but tragically succumbed to their brutality. His life was brutally taken as they bludgeoned him with a hammer. To add insult to injury, the thugs callously made off with his motorcycle.
The university community, already reeling from the shock of this heart-wrenching loss, mourns the untimely passing of a dedicated and promising student. An anonymous senior lecturer in the philosophy department expressed deep regret, emphasizing that Chibuzor’s life was extinguished prematurely.
In a separate incident, the Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Fwinbe Thomas, a commercial bus driver, by a gang of suspected motorcyclists. The tragic episode unfolded when Thomas accidentally scratched a motorcyclist with his vehicle while driving home after work. Outraged by the incident, a group of infuriated motorcyclists pursued him, cornering him along Tudun Wada Ring Road in Jos. Their vicious attack inflicted multiple fatal injuries on Thomas, ultimately leading to his untimely demise.
The police spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, has decried this brutal act of violence and condemned the senseless killing of Fwinbe Thomas, who suffered severe head injuries in the attack.
