Kano Assembly Declares State of Emergency

Due to persistent phone snatching and thuggery.

Kano state house of Assembly has declared a state of emergency on phone snatching, thuggery, and other criminal activities.

This was a sequel to an urgent motion of public importance, moved by the majority leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini, representing the Dala constituency, during a plenary session presided over by the speaker Alhaji Isma’il Jibrin Falgore.

According to him, some miscreants engage in thuggery, phone snatching, shoplifting, drug abuse and other unlawful acts, possibly disturbing the peaceful atmosphere within the metropolitan local government areas.

In their separate contributions, members representing Dawakin Tofa/Rimin Gado, Ungoggo, Dambatta, Garko, Takai and Kabo explained that, if care is not taken, the security situation might escalate, as gangs are terrorising and injuring Kano residents.

They noted that there’s a need for the state security council, security agencies, and relevant stakeholders to holistically review and come up with modalities to address the management.

After careful deliberations, the house adopted the motion and charged the state government to do everything possible to fish out perpetrators and bring them to book to end criminal activities.

In another development, a member representing Takai Alhaji Musa Ali Kachako submitted a letter seeking approval to present a private Kano state health security bill 2023.

The house adjourned its sitting in a motion moved by the majority leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini Dala.
