Supreme Court grants leave to the federal government on Nnamdi Kanu.

The Supreme Court has granted leave to the federal government to bring nine new grounds of appeal against the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB Nnamdi Kanu.

A five-member Panel of Justices, led by Justice John Okoro, granted the leave while ruling on the Counsel of the federal government, Mr. Tijani Gadzali.

When the Matter came up for hearing, Counsel Kanu’s Counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome, prayed the Court to grant his client bail. He sought his transfer to Kuje correctional facility for proper medical attention, citing his failing health at DSS custody.

He also prayed for an accelerated hearing of the matCounseleaking on the motion to transfer Kanu out of the DSS’s custody. The Counsel to the federal government prayed for an adjournment to file a counter affidavit stating that he just took over the Matter.

The Court subsequently adjourned the pending motion and the main appeal until the 11th of next month, October 13.

The Court of Appeal had, on October 13, last year, cleared Nnamdi Kanu of Alleged treason and terrorism charges against him after dismissing the remaining six counts levelled against him by the federal government.

The Appeal Court panel faulted extraditing him back to Nigeria from Kenya because of the October 28 International Protocol.

Another panel of the same Court, on October 28 last year, reversed its earlier decision, ordering a stay of execution pending a hearing and determination of the appeal of the Supreme Court.
