Murja Ibrahim Kunja, a popular TikToker from Kano, has been granted bail by the Kano State High Court sitting in Bompai. The court ordered bail for five hundred thousand naira and two reliable sureties.

According to the bail conditions, one surety must be closely related to the applicant. At the same time, the other must possess a landed property with a Certificate of Occupancy in Kano.

Presiding over the case, Justice Nasiru Saminu also issued directives to the Kano Hospital Management Board and the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau. They were instructed to provide the court with a psychiatric evaluation report on the applicant within seven days.

Murja Ibrahim Kunja’s February arrest by the Kano State Hisbah Board sparked controversy. The board alleged her involvement in immoral acts, leading to her detention.

Chairman of Operation ‘Kai da Badala’ and Officer-in-Charge of Surveillance Aliyu Usman confirmed the arrest, stating that she was apprehended at her residence in the Tinshama area. He elaborated on the charges against her, citing her widely known reputation for immoral behaviour.

Usman revealed that an individual regularly picked up Murja Ibrahim Kunja around 10 pm and returned by midnight or 1 am, raising suspicions about her activities.

The court’s bail grant marks a significant turning point in the case, offering relief to Murja Ibrahim Kunja and her supporters. The requirement for a psychiatric evaluation report underscores the legal complexities surrounding the matter and reflects the court’s commitment to thoroughly examining it.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the fate of the Kano TikToker remains uncertain. The outcome will likely shape future actions and perceptions regarding online content creation and freedom of expression in Nigeria.
