EFCC Detains Former Kwara Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed Over Alleged N10 Billion Diversion
Abdulfatah Ahmed, the former Governor of Kwara State, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as part of investigations into an alleged diversion of over N10 billion during his tenure. Ahmed, who served as governor from May 29, 2011, to May 29, 2019, was summoned by the EFCC and voluntarily appeared at the Ilorin zonal office on Monday.
This marks the third time Ahmed has been interrogated by the EFCC concerning the mismanagement of funds during his administration. The investigation, which commenced in 2019, focuses on allegations of diversion, misappropriation of funds, and money laundering related to his time as governor.
According to a source within the EFCC, the former governor was questioned regarding the alleged diversion and mismanagement of funds belonging to the Kwara State Government. The agency clarified that Ahmed was not arrested but was detained to enable him to address specific issues related to the investigation.
Responding to inquiries, Ahmed’s spokesman, Wahab Oba, affirmed that the former governor’s visit to the EFCC was routine and emphasized his willingness to cooperate with the agency’s investigation. Oba reiterated Ahmed’s commitment to transparency and accountability regarding his tenure as governor.
The EFCC is reportedly finalizing its investigation in preparation for Ahmed’s arraignment before the Federal High Court in Ilorin. The agency aims to ensure a smooth legal process by addressing jurisdictional issues and anticipates conducting the trial within Kwara State.
