Nigerian Police Investigate Tragic Murder-Suicide of Oil Businessman and Wife in Ondo State

The Ondo State Police Command has launched a probe into a disturbing incident involving the death of a prominent oil and gas merchant, Sesan Adelabu, and his wife, Bolu, in Akure, the state capital.

According to reports, the tragedy unfolded when Adelabu, popularly known as “Shessy Emirate” in social circles, allegedly discovered his wife engaging in an extramarital affair. Enraged by this revelation, Adelabu purportedly attacked his wife with a machete, resulting in her death.

Subsequently, Adelabu reportedly took his own life by consuming a lethal insecticide known as Sniper. The couple’s bodies were discovered in their home in the Alagbaka area of Akure.

Reacting to the incident, the State Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, ordered the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to lead the investigation. The Commissioner, speaking through the Command’s spokesperson, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, confirmed that the bodies had been deposited at a mortuary.

The police received a distress call on the evening of February 9, 2024, prompting officers from the A’ Division Akure and the Special Protection Unit to respond. Upon arrival, Adelabu was found deceased in the toilet while his wife’s body bore multiple machete wounds.

An empty container of Sniper was discovered at the scene, further indicating the tragic sequence of events.

The investigation into this shocking murder-suicide continues as authorities seek to understand the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the oil businessman and his wife.
