In a heartwarming display of respect and admiration, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, paid a courtesy visit to Mrs. Hairat Aderinsola Balogun, OON. He was warmly welcomed by Mr. Afolabi Balogun on behalf of the Prestigious Libra Law Firm.

The President embraced the opportunity to convey his most profound respects, offer warm compliments, and seek the blessings and prayers of the venerable Mrs Balogun, fondly referred to as “grandma.”

^{Hairat Balogun was born on October 10,} 1941, and was called to the English Bar at age 21, on February 5, 1963, and to the Nigerian Bar on July 13, 1963. In 1981, she was elected as the first Secretary-General of the Nigerian Bar Association and held the office until 1983.

Hairat Balogun is a life bencher who made history as the first female Chairman of the Body of Benchers. She also stands as the first woman to be a member of the council of the International Bar Association. Additionally, she holds a Life Membership in the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) and was honoured as an Officer of the Order of Niger for her substantial contributions to the Nigerian legal profession.

Mrs. Balogun, OON, holds an indelible legacy, having served as the first female General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association and trailblazing as the first female Attorney General of Lagos State. Her illustrious career, spanning over 60 years post-call, includes becoming the first female president of the Rotary Club of Lagos.

Notably, amidst her accomplishments, she joyfully celebrated the recent occasion of her great-grandson, who turned eight days old, on January 5, 2024, marking her transition into the esteemed status of a great-grandma.

During the visit, President Maikyau engaged in a moment of fellowship marked by mentorship and shared wisdom. Hairat Balogun, in her revered maternal role, extended her prayers for the President and expressed her wishes for the Nigerian Bar Association to achieve unprecedented heights in fulfilling its noble calling as guardians of justice.

In response to this unexpected and unprecedented honour, Hairat expressed a heartfelt message of appreciation to the NBA President. She conveyed her gratitude for the esteemed visit, emphasizing the significance of the president’s time spent engaging with her partners and other colleagues and staff of the office.

Mrs Balogun’s son, Afolabi, is the managing partner in the prestigious Libra Law Office at Ikoyi; he was enrolled as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1991 and thereafter joined the Libra law firm. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Arbitrators UK Branch, the Nigeria Bar Association, and the International Bar Association.

Hairat Balogun prayed for President Y.C. Maikyau, invoking blessings of goodness, joy, and everlasting peace in his career and family.
