Meet Mazi Afam Osigwe: A Noteworthy Figure in the Nigerian Legal Sphere

Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in September 1999, marking the commencement of a distinguished legal career characterized by continuous learning and diverse expertise.

In 2006, he achieved the esteemed position of Notary Public of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, showcasing his commitment to excellence in the profession. His academic pursuits include a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from the University of Jos in 2010 and a subsequent Master of Laws (LLM) degree in Transnational Commercial Practice from the Centre for International Legal Studies, Austria, in collaboration with Lazarsky University, Poland.

In a commitment to alternative dispute resolution, Mazi Afam Osigwe completed a face-to-face tutorial at Keble College, Oxford, United Kingdom, earning a Diploma in International Commercial Arbitration from the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK). This pursuit culminated in his elevation to the status of a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK) in 2011.

Afam, Pioneering Excellence in the Legal Landscape with Remarkable Achievements

Throughout his career, Afam Osigwe has held key leadership positions within the profession. He served as the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja (Unity Bar) from 2010 to 2012. His contributions extended to the role of General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association from 2014 to 2016.

Afam’s involvement in legal governance is evidenced by his membership in the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria (2014-2016), the General Council of the Bar (2015 to date), and the Council of Legal Education (2015-2018). Notably, he holds a Life membership in the Body of Benchers of Nigeria since 2015.

In his distinguished role within the international legal community, Mazi Afam Osigwe holds memberships in eminent institutions such as the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Institute of Management, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (United Kingdom), and the Institute of Chartered Mediators & Conciliators. Additionally, he is an Associate Member of the American Bar Association.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to the profession, Mazi Afam Osigwe was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in December 2020. Currently, he serves as the Senior Partner of LAW FORTE, a distinguished firm of legal practitioners, arbitrators, and notaries. He was recently appointed the Nigerian Bar Association National Remuneration Committee Chairman.
