Inspired by the Igbo Apprenticeship System, “IGBA BOYI,” the Endowment seeks to preserve the time-tested Igbo tradition that has fueled the success of numerous entrepreneurs and business leaders globally.

The innovative scheme aims to bridge the mentoring resources gap and provide young legal interns essential knowledge and skills.

Under this legacy project, Igbo Young Lawyers are offered internships with prestigious Law Firms, providing them with a platform to gain valuable experience. What sets this initiative apart is the provision of stipends funded by the Otu Oka-iwu Abuja Endowment, ensuring that these budding legal professionals are duly compensated for their dedication.

In a recent milestone, ten young lawyers, namely Chinwemeri Uzoigwe, Chidiebere Imoko, Michael Ochili, Chidinma Okafor, Lucy Ndubuisi, Olunwo Maryann Onukogu, Uche Umoke, Bridget Ochuba, Gregory Okere, and Adaugo Joy Jicca, underwent a three-month intensive training in legislative drafting.

This program, organized in collaboration with the Association of Legislative Drafters and Advocacy Practitioners (ALDRAP), culminated in a graduation ceremony held on January 26, 2024, where participants received certificates.

The President of Otu Oka-iwu Igbo Lawyers Association, Abuja Branch, Barr Ejiofor Onwuaso, expressed gratitude to the association’s leadership for initiating the IGBA BOYI ENDOWMENT Programme. The success of this endeavour underscores the commitment of Otu Oka-iwu Abuja to the empowerment and benefit of young lawyers, laying the foundation for a future generation of legal professionals.

The IGBA BOYI ENDOWMENT Programme is evident in preserving Igbo traditions and is a beacon of empowerment, unity, and progress within the legal sphere. Otu Oka-iwu Abuja will continue demonstrating that the legal profession can catalyse positive change, shaping young lawyers’ careers and advancing legal expertise.
