In a sombre turn of events, the Ondo State Government has officially confirmed the passing of the state governor, Mr Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON. Governor Akeredolu, aged 67, succumbed to prostate cancer in Germany on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated public service.

This unfortunate news follows a poignant anniversary, as just a year ago, Governor Akeredolu’s mother, Mrs. Grace Akeredolu, passed away at the age of 90. The President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mr. Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau, OON, SAN, extended heartfelt condolences to Governor Akeredolu and his family on the loss of Mrs. Akeredolu.

In a statement issued by President Maikyau, he urged the Akeredolu family to find strength in the lessons taught by Mama. He emphasized the enduring values of care and compassion instilled by Mrs. Akeredolu, as well as the sacrifices she made for her children’s success.

As the news of Governor Akeredolu’s passing reverberates, the Nigerian Bar Association, through President Maikyau, extends sincere condolences to the bereaved family. The loss of both mother and son within a year is an immeasurable tragedy, and the Association stands in solidarity with the Akeredolu family during this trying time.
