Senate Approves Appointment of 11 New Supreme Court Justices: Full List
The Nigerian Senate has approved appointing 11 new justices to the Supreme Court following the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters.
The nominees, previously recommended by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and subsequently forwarded by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have received the nod from lawmakers.
The confirmed nominees and their respective regions are as follows:
- Justice Haruna Tsammani (Northeast)
- Justice Moore Adumein (South-South)
- Justice Jummai Sankey (North-Central)
- Justice Chidiebere Uwa (South-East)
- Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme (South-East)
- Justice Obande Ogbuinya (South-East)
- Justice Stephen Adah (North-Central)
- Justice Habeeb Abiru (South-West)
- Justice Jamilu Tukur (Northwest)
- Justice Abubakar Umar (Northwest)
- Justice Mohammed Idris (North-Central)
The addition of these 11 Justices brings the total number of Supreme Court Justices to 21, aligning with the stipulations of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
