President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Canadian government, the diplomatic community, and all those affected by the recent fire incident at the Canadian High Commission in Abuja. He assured the Canadian authorities that the Nigerian government stands ready to provide any necessary assistance to the High Commission’s local and diplomatic staff, who were particularly impacted by the tragedy.
President Tinubu offered prayers for the souls of the deceased and wished a swift and complete recovery to all those who were injured in the incident. The fire broke out at the High Commission’s building at 13010G, Palm Close, Diplomatic Drive, Central Business District in Abuja, just minutes before noon.
According to sources, the fire originated in the generator house during maintenance work on the power-generating plants. The Federal Fire Service (FFS) promptly responded and successfully controlled the fire. Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the incident.
Regrettably, two individuals lost their lives in the incident, including personnel from a generator servicing company and a staff member of the embassy. Two other injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention at the hospital.
President Tinubu’s empathetic message underscores the solidarity and support of the Nigerian government towards the Canadian High Commission and the affected individuals. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety measures and the need for continuous vigilance to prevent such incidents in the future.
