Federal Government Approves Salary Increases for Federal Tertiary Institutions: A Step Toward Educational Excellence

In a significant development under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Government has officially sanctioned a salary adjustment plan encompassing all federal tertiary institutions. This comprehensive initiative includes a 35% salary increase for professors and a 25% raise for lecturers. Furthermore, the government has committed to the disbursement of arrears retroactive to January 1, 2023.

This adjustment allocates a 25% salary increment to lecturers and a 35% increase to professors in all federal institutions.

Notably, the government initially contested the 25% salary increment for lecturers, maintaining a 35% raise solely for professors. However, it has since reconsidered its stance and approved the 25% salary increase.

This momentous decision transpired during the 13th meeting of the Presidential Committee on Salaries. The determination to implement these salary adjustments was reached after careful consideration of the various phases of collective bargaining. Significantly, the decision reflects the productive engagements between the Federal Ministry of Education and the representative bodies of tertiary institutions’ personnel.
