The boy’s father accidentally ran over the child in the playground parking lot in Castle Points, Indiana.

A five-year-old boy died after he was run over by his own father in a tragic accident, Indiana police have said.

Jeremiah Holmes, 5, tragically died from injuries after being run over by a car. The driver was identified as Christopher Holmes, 28, the boy’s father.

Police in St. Joseph County, Indiana, received reports of a child not breathing at the 100 block of Royal Arms Drive at about 10.30pm on Saturday.

They reportedly arrived at a scene described as chaotic as they were wrongly informed that the child had suffered a severe injury from a headshot.

But the authorities later discovered these claims and a video circulating online rumoured to be of the event was false.

A further investigation confirmed that the boy’s father accidentally ran over the child in the playground parking lot in Castle Points.

First responders rushed to the scene to take the boy to a nearby hospital, where he died. Holmes was reportedly uninjured and cooperated with investigators following the incident.

The crash is still under investigation by the St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team. Police have also not revealed whether anyone had been arrested concerning the young boy’s death.
