Investigate Imo State Election Violent Attack: Rtd Colonel

A retired Colonel in the Nigerian Army, Mrs Chinyere Obi, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and law enforcement agents to look into alleged electoral violence witnessed in Imo state during the State House of Assembly election in the area.

She appealed while narrating her ordeal in the hands of thugs before newsmen in Owerri.

Retired colonel Obi alleged that thugs working for some politicians in Dikenafai, Ideato south local government area of the state, attacked and inflicted injuries on her when she complained of electoral malpractice in a polling booth in connivance with INEC ad hoc staff.

The Septuagenarian said the conduct of last Saturday’s election in Imo state fell below the people’s expectations as the exercise was characterized by rigging and thuggery.

Mrs Obi expressed worry over what she described as high-level desperation exhibited during the March 18 election while expressing fear that many lives might be lost during the Governorship election slated for November this year if nothing drastic was done to stem the tide.
