Elections marred by violence in Lagos State.
ELECTION CHOAS
The Presidential and National Assembly elections were marred by violence in some areas of Lagos
State. Some polling units in the Ijesatedo area of surulere ballot boxes were snatched, people
were injured, and one person was shot in the chest. The presence of the military and their armoured
tanks at strategic junctions in Lagos were the saving grace as hoodlums suspected to be party thugs
unleashed mayhem on innocent voters in parts of the state.
VOTE COUNTING BEGINS IN NIGERIA
At Ojota, the Nigerian Army arrested one person with two voter cards and over twenty other people
suspected of having acted in breach of the electoral law as early as eight O’clock in the morning.
One of the suspects said he was going to his shop, while the other said he was strolling to see a
friend when they were arrested.
Election Process Marred By Violence In Parts Of Lagos State
At Jimoh street in Ijesatedo, there was Chaos as INEC officials and voters were seen running for their
lives when some hooded persons came on motorcycles and smashed ballot boxes, carted away some
of them. Radio Nigeria spoke with some eyewitnesses. The situation in Lawanson was not different as
some area boys came shooting to disperse voters and carted away some ballot boxes.

However, voters eager to exercise their franchise had to reconvene, insisting that voting
must resume, and begged the military not to leave the polling unit. The Assistant Director of Army
public relations, sector two, safe operation conduct, Major Augustine Bello, who spoke on behalf
of the commander, sector two of the operation, Brigadier general Isangbon Akpaumounthia,
confirmed the incident.
