Radio Nigeria’s correspondent, who visited Kumbotso, Tarauni, Fagge and Kano Municipal local

government areas observed the presence of security and paramilitary officials, including Police,

Civil defence and immigration.

INEC officials and relevant stakeholders have commenced accreditation of voters at the Kwakwaci primary

school, school of Arabic studies SAS, particular education school Tudun Maliki and Tukuntawa primary,

Gidan radio, Hudaibiyya and Gyadi Gyadi Arewa in Tarauni, Kano Municipal, and Kumbotso local

government areas.

Election materials arrived at Tukuntawa wards which comprise Gidan Radio, Hudaibiyya and

Primary at 9:30am. Voters at Kwari III Kabo, Alawa ward Gaya and some parts of Kura local

government areas have started casting their votes. Security and paramilitary officials went around the polling units to maintain law and order.

Turnout appeared high,  with many young, first-time voters arriving before dawn to cast

their ballots. However, Saturday’s voting was marred by lengthy delays at polling stations

and scattered reports of ballot box snatching and attacks by armed men.

 

And some parties have raised the alarm over allegations of irregularities, which could

lead to a disputed outcome. The elections are the most important democratic exercise

in Africa, with 87 million people eligible to vote.
