Legal Challenge Against Tinubu's Presidency Heads to Supreme Court

President Bola Tinubu is facing a legal battle as a Supreme Court case has been initiated, alleging his unlawful inauguration. The case, numbered SC/667/2023, is filed by Albert Ambrose Owuru, a candidate in the 2019 general election and a constitutional lawyer. Owuru seeks to nullify Tinubu’s inauguration, arguing that the election that produced Tinubu was invalid due to an unresolved lawsuit.

The ongoing Supreme Court case lists Chief A.A. Owuru and the Hope Democratic Party as appellants, with former President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Bola Ahmed Tinubu as respondents. Owuru contends that Tinubu’s inauguration contradicts the Supreme Court and established law due to lis pendens, as Tinubu is a party in a pending suit before the Apex Court.

Owuru, who contested the 2019 presidential election, claims to be the adjudged winner against Buhari’s declaration by INEC. He insists that Tinubu, aware of the pending suit, breached the doctrine of lis pendens and that his inauguration is liable to dismissal.

The legal battle complicates Tinubu’s presidency, raising constitutional questions about the 2023 election. Owuru also seeks an order restraining Tinubu from operating the Federation Account pending the resolution of constitutional questions against the 2023 election.

In light of these developments, Nigerians are urged to exercise patience in resolving these outstanding issues and the determination of the authentic Nigerian President.
