THE NBA PRESIDENT CLEARS THE AIR ON THE TREASURER'S REFUSAL TO SIGN THE FINANCIAL REPORTS AT THE AGM 2023.

Reacting to the Treasurer’s refusal to sign the Financial Reports for presentation at the 2023 Annual General Meeting of the NBA held in Abuja recently, the NBA President maintains that her claim of not being carried along in the financial affairs of the Association, hence her refusal to sign and present the Financial Reports is a false alarm.

Similarly, her insinuation that the reports must have been prepared by either the President, the General Secretary or both is equally fallacious, clearly indicating that she is not in tune with her job as a Treasurer. Otherwise, she should have known that constitutionally and traditionally, the Association’s Financial Reports are prepared by the Auditors.

He further stated that the natural bone of contention here fuelling this agitation and discordant tunes is his refusal to buy the idea of special consultation of her office by accommodating illegitimate and unnecessary expenses and conflict of interest in the discharge of the Exco’s duties as duly elected National Officers of the NBA. These things negate my spirit and position regarding managing our Association’s finances.

However, he said, if the AGM, being the highest decision-making arm of the NBA, authorizes me via a resolution here and now to bankroll the extravagant personal expenses of the National Officers, then that nails it for me as I will go ahead and do just that.

Other than such a resolution of this AGM authorizing me to spend the Association’s funds carelessly to satisfy or buy the loyalty of some National Officers, no amount of pressure will push me into appropriating money for such unwarranted and unjustifiable payments/expenses, the NBA President maintains.

Above is why we are where we are today, and he stated that I have all the documents here to prove all these things. On a final note, the President assured all the conferees that as their elected servant, he would neither bow to any form of pressure nor resort to any form of financial mismanagement of the Association’s funds just to satisfy the cravings of a few National Officers. “No! Not under my watch as the NBA President!! I would rather decline and contend with their disloyalty”, he concluded.
