IMO: Gunmen Kill five Policemen

POLICE ATTACK

Gunmen have shot dead five Policemen attached to Imo State Police Command at Okpalla junction at Ngor Okpalla local government area of the state.

The security personnel were said to have met their untimely death around eight o’clock in the morning after alighting from a patrol vehicle to have breakfast at a restaurant near the junction.

Also killed during the attack were a couple who operated a shop near the scene of the incident.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the couple who hailed from Amankwo community in the same Ngor Okpalla were gunned down when the hoodlums traced two fleeing policemen to their shop and fired at all of them at a close range.

An indigene of the community who would not want his name mentioned said the gunmen abandoned the corpses at the scene and carted away five riffles belonging to the police.

The Spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Mr Henry Okoye, said the command team tactically had been deployed to apprehend the hoodlums.

He said normalcy had been restored and urged residents to continue their regular businesses.

Five men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were shot dead by gunmen who ambushed them at Ngor Okpalla on the 27th of last month.
