Chief of Army Staff Appears Before Investigative Panel

In December last year, an International News agency, Reuters, published a report alleging abortion of ten thousand Pregnancies, infanticide and other forms of Sexual and Gender Violence against the Nigerian military. While answering questions from the Panel, the Chief of the Army Staff described the allegations as an attempt to rubbish the successes recorded by the Nigerian Army.

Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya said the Nigeria Army is an organized institution that will permanently adhere strictly to guidelines in the rules of their operations. The Chief of the Army Staff reiterated that Nigeria, as a sovereign nation, would not succumb to any conspiracy in the fight against insurgency and other criminal elements.

The Panel had earlier invited Reuters to appear before the Panel to substantiate its allegations of abortion of 10,000 pregnancies, massacre of children, and other forms of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence against the Nigerian military in its counter-insurgency operations in the North East. Still, Reuters declined, given some reasons for their inability to honour the summons.
