Ecological project office in Kano Industrial Areas reaches 95% Completion – Perm Sec.

The Permanent Secretary Ecological Project Office, Malam Shehu Ibrahim, says the ongoing construction of Effluent Discharge Treatment plants at the significant industrial sites in Kano has reached 95% completion. Malam Shehu Ibrahim stated this when he led the management team of the project office on an inspection tour of the sites of the ongoing projects in Kano.

He said the contract was awarded in 2019 to address environmental hazards in the major industrial sites, Sharada, Bompai and Challawa. Malam Shehu Ibrahim explained that challenges like covid 19, Legal issues and other difficulties that were not envisaged earlier delayed the speed of the project, stressing that President Mohammadu Buhari had already considered the project’s second phase so that the objectives would be achieved.

“This is a project that if you don’t complete the second phase, the first one will be like nothing has been done. In the second phase, all these machines will be mounted, everything will be channelled, and we will be able to achieve what the project is meant for.”

Construction of Effluent Discharge Treatment Plants in Kano

The permanent secretary noted that before the commencement of the project, there were several complaints from the Kano Emirate. The people living in the affected areas urged the federal government through the Ecological Project office to interview them.

Other areas inspected by the team include Erosion Flood works at Tudun Murtala Graveyard, Erosion control works at Ladanai Nasarawa local government area, reconstruction of plankawa Dam Ajing Dam and Reclaiming of Kwargam Pond in Daura Katsina State.

Speaking on the impact of the projects, residents of the affected areas applauded the foresight and commitment of the administration of President Mohammad Buhari for bringing succour to their suffering through the International projects of the Ecological Project Office.
