Niger State Govt flags off 160 Housing Units for Flood Victims.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger state has flagged off the construction of one hundred and sixty Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPPADEC resettlement housing scheme for victims of flooding in Muregi and Ketso communities of Mokwa local government council.

Flagging off the exercise at Muregi, the Governor maintained that efforts like this would no doubt guarantee the safety of lives and properties of affected persons and ameliorate their hardship. Alh Abubakar Sani Bello expressed hope that the project will be completed on schedule to enable the victims to return immediately.

He said Niger will collaborate with HYPPADEC to construct an access road in the area after the project is completed towards boosting farming activities for economic emancipation.

Flood: HYPPADEC launches 160 Housing Units for affected communities in Niger

Managing Director HYPPADEC Alhaji Abubakar Sadik Yelwa said the choice of Muregi and Ketso for the construction of the 2-bedroom housing units this year to be shared they was predicated on the fact that these were communities that have been frequently affected by floods since 2015.

Alh Abubakar Sadik Yelwa further said the housing unit is expected to be occupied only by persons facing intermittent displacement due to flood and other ecological disasters.

Etsu Nupe and Chairman Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers Alh Yahaya Abubakar thanked the HYPPADEC and Niger state government for working in synergy to improve the lots of his subjects. They called for the setting up a committee to take care of the resettlement of victims.

Chairman of Local Government Council Alh Abdullahi Jibrin Muregi pledged to contribute his quota to the project’s success.
