Gunmen stormed APC rally in Imo

Omuma is the community of the governor of the state, Senator Hope Uzodimma.

Heavily armed gunmen, carrying sophisticated weapons on Monday, stormed the venue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Omuma, Oru East local government area of Imo state and disrupted its activities.

An eyewitness who spoke to our correspondent said the gunmen arrived at the scene in five Hilux vans, carrying refined weapons and gas bottles and started shooting sporadically, putting the APC followers on the run.

“They later marched into the arena and destroyed all the canopies mounted there, confiscated all the phones abandoned by the owners, destroyed the generator being used to power the place and the vehicle of APC leader in Oru East local government area, Hon Onyekachi Ojiegbe,” he said.

However, all efforts to get the Imo Police Command’s spokesman, ASP Henry Okoye, to react to the incident proved abortive as his line was not connecting.
