Rotimi Akeredolu Laid to Rest: Tribute to Former NBA President and Ondo Governor Celebrated at Funeral Service in Owo

The late Rotimi Akeredolu, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and Governor of Ondo State, was laid to rest on Friday, 23rd February 2023, in his hometown of Owo, Ondo State. Akeredolu’s funeral service, held at the St. Andrews Anglican Diocese Church, Imola Owo, was attended by numerous dignitaries, including past presidents of the Nigerian Bar Association, justices, Senior Advocates of Nigeria, Esteemed lawyers, and many others.

Rotimi Akeredolu, fondly known as Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, Commander of the Niger, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, passed away at the age of 67 after battling prostate cancer in a German hospital on December 27, 2023. Described by NBA President YC Maikyau as “one of the country’s finest legal minds and political leaders,” Akeredolu’s legacy was celebrated during the funeral service.

YC Maikyau reflected Akeredolu’s courageous spirit and unwavering dedication to his people in his tribute. He commended Akeredolu’s distinguished legal career and influential tenure as Governor of Ondo State, highlighting his exceptional intellect and profound impact on leadership.

Maikyau also praised Akeredolu’s humility and commitment to democratic principles, noting his refusal of chieftaincy titles and ‘His Excellency’ appellations to identify himself as Arakunrin – a gentleman.

One of the country’s finest legal minds and political leaders, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, Commander of the Niger, Senior Advocate of Nigeria – Aketi, as he was fondly called.

Acknowledging Akeredolu’s strength of character and sacrifices for his community, Maikyau emphasized the importance of preserving his legacy and upholding his values as a tribute to his memory.

The funeral service served as a poignant reminder of Akeredolu’s enduring contributions to the legal profession, governance, and the nation.
