you are welcome to the commission and we are happy to have you this morning. the president of the nigerian bar association Mr yakubu chonoko maikyau along his national executive members paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) the nerc officials received and welcomed the president, Mr ….. who is the vice chairman of the commission started by saying that the nerc are saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the power sector of nigeria despite ben regarded as the most troubled sector under the nigerian economy system. we are responsible for the issuance of licences and there are terms and conditions that the licencees needs to follow in ensuring that customers are diligently satisfied. one area we have a very pressing issue which is becoming a worrisome to the nation is the area of tarrif of which everyone is a aware of this problem. we have receive so many doses from the lawetrs with regards to this particular issue. in terms of litigations upon litigation, we are one of the regulatory institutions in nigeria that has experienced litigations that has affected our impact and ability to function in the way and manner we ordinarily will want to. between 2016-2019, the commission was practically incapacitated by several litagations that came in as a result of the review of tariff pricing to electricity consumers. this has really led to the the significant setback on the commission. we currently seem to have a good level of engagement with the Nigerian bar association with regards to both the bar and the bench. we are so glad that this very courtesy visit is taking place as we are looking forward to an already scheduled of activities lined up with members of the bench. we are striving as much as we can to function within the proficience of the law, but at the same time, in our nation nigeria, no matter how much you try to do the right thing under the law, some persons will stop the progress of such obedience of that law. we want to use this avenvue to plead that the NBA work in paternership with us, on our part as a commission, we will try the much we can to steer off every trouble we are currently faced with with respect with litigations as well as all the trobles that beclouuds the sector as electricity is the only engine of growth to any nation therefore, we wont undime that fact, and we must rise to expectation and give maximum delivery.
